What is the Shopify Theme Detector?
The Shopify Theme Detector shows the name of the theme running on a store's storefront: a free one, a premium one, or a custom name the store gave it.
Why identify a store's theme?
- You try the design patterns of stores that sell well in your own store.
- You see how a premium theme looks on real stores before you buy it.
- You gauge how much a competitor has invested in design.
- You cut development costs by picking the right theme to start from.
How to use the Shopify Theme Detector
- Type the store's domain into the field above. If you paste a full link, the tool cuts it down to the domain.
- Press “Find theme”.
- Read the result. If the store is in our catalogue, the answer comes at once; if not, we read the storefront live, which can take a few seconds.
Standard theme or custom theme: what the result tells you
When you read the result, tell three cases apart:
- A familiar name such as Dawn means the store runs a theme from the Shopify Theme Store.
- A name you do not recognise is often a renamed theme or one built for that store.
- If you see “—” instead of a theme, the store does not reveal its theme's name or runs a headless storefront.
