What apps do Shopify stores actually use? Data from 137,687 stores
41.7% of active Shopify stores run the Facebook & Instagram app and 20.8% run Judge.me, yet the median store shows just 1 detectable app. Top 25 apps, apps per store, and how usage shifts with traffic and catalogue size.
The most common app on an active Shopify store is the Facebook & Instagram sales channel, found on 41.7% of stores, followed by Google & YouTube (35.3%) and Judge.me Reviews (20.8%). Beyond the top five, no app reaches 10%. The figures below are estimated from a random sample of 137,687 active stores that Roasan tracks, observed between 20 June 2026 and 2 November 2026, and scaled to the 2,733,348 active stores in the same set.
All numbers count only apps that leave a trace on the storefront; the section on apps per store explains why that matters.

A store can run several apps, so shares do not add up, even within a category.
What each category does
Sales channels and ad integrations (Facebook & Instagram, Google & YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat Ads, Microsoft Channel) sync the catalogue to a platform and install its tracking pixel. Simprosys builds the product feed for Google Shopping.
Reviews (Judge.me, Trustoo) collect and display product reviews.
Email, SMS and push (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, SendWILL, Brevo PushOwl) capture subscribers and send campaigns and automated flows.
Analytics: Microsoft Clarity records sessions and heatmaps; TripleWhale attributes orders to ad spend.
Affiliate and creator programmes (Collabs, UpPromote, GOAFFPRO) give partners tracked links or codes.
Bundles and upsell (Kaching Bundles, Selleasy) add quantity discounts and bundle offers.
Cash-on-delivery forms (Releasit) take orders through a form for pay-on-delivery markets.
Print-on-demand and dropshipping (Printful, AutoDS) import supplier products and route orders back for fulfilment. Parcel Panel adds order tracking.
Why the median store shows only one app
The median active store has 1 detectable app and the mean is 2.0; 31.2% of stores show no detectable app at all. The number is low because of what can be seen from outside, not only because merchants install few apps.

Only apps that leave a trace on the storefront are counted: a script, a tracking pixel or a theme app block. Admin-only apps (inventory, accounting, shipping labels, most back-office tools) are invisible from outside, so the real number of installed apps is higher. Read the table as "apps a shopper's browser loads", not "apps installed".
Among stores with at least one detected app, the mean is 2.9; 19.9% of all stores show four or more.
How app usage changes with estimated monthly visits
Every app below is more common in each higher traffic group: Klaviyo is on 4.7% of stores under 1K estimated monthly visits and on 40.5% of stores above 100K, about 8.6 times as often.
Roasan's traffic figure is an estimate given as a range. In the sample, 74.5% of stores fall under 1K estimated monthly visits, 17.0% between 1K and 10K, 7.0% between 10K and 100K and 1.5% (2,074 stores) above 100K.

Channels become near-universal. Google & YouTube rises from 24.8% to 80.3% and overtakes Facebook & Instagram as the most common app from 1K visits upward.
Email moves up the list. Klaviyo is sixth among stores under 1K and third among stores above 100K, ahead of Judge.me.
Measurement tools grow fastest. Microsoft Clarity goes from 2.3% to 23.6%, about ten times higher; TripleWhale from 0.6% to 13.8%.
Some apps belong to small stores. Printful is on 3.3% of stores under 1K visits and outside the top 10 of every larger group. Above 100K, Snapchat Ads (6.3%), Wishlist Plus (6.1%) and the affiliate network Awin (5.2%) enter the top 15 instead.
This is a correlation, not a cause: the data does not show that installing an app raises traffic.
How app usage changes with catalogue size
Catalogue size shifts the mix too: Google & YouTube is on 19.3% of stores with 1–10 products and on 57.3% of stores with more than 1,000.

Large catalogues lean on Google. Google & YouTube passes Facebook & Instagram from 251 products upward,; the Simprosys feed tool reaches 2.5% and 3.4% in the two largest groups.
Pinterest grows with catalogue size, from 4.5% to 18.6%.
Reviews level off. Judge.me rises from 15.3% to 24.8% at 51–250 products, then stays between 22.5% and 24.7%.
Small catalogues show single-product tactics. Among stores with 1–10 products, Kaching Bundles is on 4.1% (compared with 2.3% of all stores) and Releasit COD Form on 2.3% (1.5% overall). Both are built for stores that sell a few products through quantity offers or cash-on-delivery orders.
Very large catalogues add channels and wishlists. Above 1,000 products, Microsoft Channel (2.9%) and Wishlist Plus (2.5%) enter the top 15.
What this means when you choose apps
The data shows what stores run, not what works, but it is a baseline.
Connect the free channels first. Facebook & Instagram and Google & YouTube are the two most common apps in every traffic and catalogue group, and they install the pixels ad platforms need.
Reviews are the most common non-channel app. Judge.me is on 20.8% of stores and on more than a third of stores above 10K estimated monthly visits.
Plan for email before traffic arrives. Klaviyo's share rises from 4.7% to 40.5% across traffic groups. Mailchimp (4.1%) and Omnisend (1.7%) follow. Picking one before the list grows avoids a migration later.
Add measurement when you have something to measure. Session recording (Clarity) is free and appears in every traffic group; ad attribution (TripleWhale) appears mainly from 10K visits upward.
Keep the storefront light. Each storefront app adds scripts to every page load. Only 0.7% of stores run 11 or more; check whether an existing app already covers the job.
Sample: 137,687 active stores drawn at random from the stores Roasan tracks; app data was available for 137,229 of them. Store counts are scaled to 2,733,348 active stores and rounded to the nearest 100.
Observation window: 20 June 2026 to 2 November 2026. Only apps still present at the last observation are counted.
Minimum group size: every reported group rests on at least 50 sampled stores.
Traffic groups use Roasan's estimated monthly visits, which is a range, not a measured figure.
Storefront-trace limitation: only apps visible on the storefront (scripts, pixels, theme app blocks) are detected. Admin-only apps are not counted, so per-store app counts are lower bounds.
